I have collected a new CD.tko-cdsb1038.jpg

"Riviera summit". This is a live recording at the Midem Jazz Gala, Cannes, France in January, 1979. Joe sung 5 songs, including one duet song with Carmen McRae. The same recording has been released previously, entitled "Carmen McRae and Joe Williams in Concert (RVC[jp] RVJ6047[LP])" and "Joe Williams & Friends (Spotlite CD-15102[CD])".

Then I update "Joe Williams A Bio-Discography 1946-1998". This is still a draft version, but includes his discography (chronological and alubms) and cross indices of tunes, musicians and records. Full version is over 100 pages.

Duke Ellington 1969: All-Star White House Tribute (Blue Note) will be released on November 10, 2002. This includes previously unissued 28-track collection that celebrated Duke's 70th birthday. At the gala, he was awarded the Medal of Freedom by President Nixon and played with 16 jazz greats, including Joe Williams!

  • Ed Foster send me a photo. This is Artie Butler, composer of "Here's to Life", and Jillean Williams in front of Joe's Crypt, which houses Joe's ashes and his favorite things.

  • I have collected a new CD "Live at Newport 63 [ORIGINAL RECORDING REMASTERED]". This recording has been released several times, but this CD includes 3 bonus tracks, "Gravy Waltz", "Medley" and "Some of This 'n' Some of That". These tracks were stored in the original LP, but they were studio recording version. The bonus tracks of this CD are Live recording version.

I am very sorry not to update this web although many people send me information. I have been editting my doctorial dissertation and completed it. Yesterday, I have just been granted the Degree of Engineering from Kyoto University. Therefore I can make a time to update the page, I hope...
  • On May 12th, 2002 The Community College of Southern Nevada will present its Annual Joe Williams Scholarship Fund Concert.(The previous concert held on April 29th, 2001.) This year's event will be held at The Orleans Showroom in Las Vegas. Featured performers will be Bob Anderson, Clint Holmes and Pete Barbutti. All the proceeds from this event go to provide scholarship funds for students in need. It was one of Joe's favorite causes. Ed Foster informs me of this news. Thank you!
  • Nicole Yarling informs me the tribute project in progress. She is hoping to make it a mixed media project with stories from his friends and people he's worked with over the years. She will also have them suggest songs and will do a concert in conjunction with the exhibit.

March 21, 2001

March 29th marks the second anniversary of Joe's death. On April 29th, the Community College of Southern Nevada will sponsor a Joe Williams Memorial Fund raising concert at the Blue Note Jazz Club in Las Vegas. Jack Jones and Marlena Shaw will be featured with a large band. All the funds will be given to support needy music students at the college.

I've received e-mails from all over the world about Joe's song with Phlicha Rashad in Cosby Show. But I maybe detect the song from a web page of Cosby Show in German. In the Music page, I find that Joe (Al) sung "We belong together" with Clair in episode "Clair's sister".

I'm sorry not to update this page about a half year. I have received many e-mails from all over the world. One of the received mails tells us that Joe's remains are in the private niche in Las Vegas. Thank you very much, Ed. I'm very happy to share it with Joe's fans.

Of cource, I'm now collecting his related LPs, CDs. Recently I'm arranging his discography. It will consist of 1) his short biography 2) discography(chronological) 3) discography(albums) 4) Index of tune titles 5) Index of musicians 6) Index of records. The draft is over 100 pages without images of albums. If you are interested in it, please download the PDF file (about 280kb) .

I haven't yet updated the other page... As soon as possible, I make the time to update.

In this CD, he sung 4 songs. I update related pages in 1990s.

I collected new CDs.

  • Count Basie Birdland 1956 (Jazz Unlimited JUCD2028[CD])
  • One O'clock Jump (Verve 314 559 806-2[CD])
In the "Birdland 1956", there are 3 previously unissued tracks, which were recorded in CBS Woolworth Jazz Hour 1956! I update discography in 1950s.

On October 13th, I received a mail from Nicole Yarling!! She told me about her CD with Joe. Unfortunately I have not yet get the CD, but I am looking forward to listening it!

October 6, 1999

On September 13th, Ed Foster reported that the Society of Singers presented the "Ella" for a lifetime of Achievement in Music to Joe Williams. The award was presented by Ginny Mancini to Jillean Williams.

And I have received GREAT INFORMATION about his last recording. The title is "Joe Williams presents Nicole Yarling - Live at Manchester Craftsmen's Guild". We can purchase this CD from NRM Mucic(http://www.nrmmusic.com/mcg/index.htm). Thank you, Lisa!

I received new information from Ed. Thank you!

On September 8th, the Society of Singers will present its 8th Humanitarian Award, to Joe Williams. The Awardwill be accepted by Jillean Williams, Joe's widow.
Previous recipients include:, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Lena Horne, Peggy Lee, Rosemary Clooney, Steve Lawrence and Edie Gorme, Tony Martin. The award will presented at the Hollywood Bowl, at a concert given by John Clayton and his orchestra.

Joe's last recordings has been released! According to New York Times (March 31, 1999), He was recorded with duets with a young singer, Nicole Yarling, at Manchester Craftsmen's Guild. The CD is by Nicole Yarling. Unfortunately, I've yet get it. Thank you for your info., Mr.Ed!!

I heard bad news. Our Joe Williams died Monday, March 29, in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was 80 years old.

Almost all has been changed, and the main changes are follows.

  • Discography contains all information I know. Previous version was only album I have. But new discography includes various information.
  • Many pictures in Photography become fine. I took pictures of albums with my single-lens reflex camera (Pentax MZ-5) and scanned the neg.. films with film scanner (Olympus ES-10).
  • Some useful web sites added. (I use these web site when I search for Joe's information.
